Senior Minister, Brian Akers
Rev. Brian Akers has been involved in the New Thought Movement since the age of 12 as a member of what is now the Centers for Spiritual Living.
Throughout his service, Rev. Brian has studied the philosophy of Religious Science (also known as Science of Mind). His studies cultivated and deepened his desire to become a minister in the philosophy. As a licensed Religious Science Practitioner with the Newport-Mesa CSL, Rev. Brian worked one-on-one with clients to provide prayer and spiritual guidance and facilitated workshops, retreats and other spiritual events and activities.
In July of 2012 Rev. Brian Akers was granted his provisional minister’s license by The Centers for Spiritual Living and in April of 2013 he was installed as the Youth and Family Minister with the InSpirit CSL in Mission Viejo, CA. During that time, Rev. Brian grew the Teen Group to three times its original size, developed and implemented curricula for both Tween and Youth programs, and established a day-care system for children under the age of 4. Throughout his ministry with InSpirit CSL he was often a Sunday speaker and helped steward the Practitioners of the center as well.
In July of 2014, Rev. Brian Akers was accepted as the Senior Spiritual Leader for the Oneness Center for Spiritual Living in Columbia, Maryland. Since his arrival, Rev. Brian has established our Outreach Program, held workshops, conducted community building and leadership development events and programs and is our regular speaker at our Sunday Celebration Services.
Rev. Brian has described his life’s vision as, “Delivering the understanding and inspiring the practice of the Science of Mind to as many people as possible.” He has been ordained by Centers for Spiritual Living in 2017 and has begun his career by engaging the local community whenever and wherever possible, modeling and promoting Spiritual Living as an individual and communal practice of Compassion, Love, and Equality.
“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding” – Proverbs 4:7 KJV
Staff Minister, Jenna Wexler
Rev. Jenna Wexler has been captivated by the New Thought Movement since 1996 as a member of what is now the Centers for Spiritual Living. She quickly started taking classes in the spiritual philosophy of Religious Science (based on Science of Mind book authored by Ernest Holmes), became a licensed Practitioner in 2002, a licensed minister in 2007, and was ordained in the spring of 2017.
Most of her New Thought spiritual journey has been as a member of the Oneness Center for Spiritual Living Columbia with the exception of six years during which she co-founded and co-pastored another center in Maryland. She returned to the Columbia congregation in early 2015 – serving as the Staff Minister.
Rev. Jenna loves to teach – creatively focusing on how to translate and apply metaphysical principles in ‘walking’ our everyday lives. She also enjoys working one-on-one with clients in prayer and for spiritual guidance and coaching.
She is passionate about applying Religious Science principles of oneness and the power of affirmative consciousness and prayer in support of the peaceful healing and transformation of troubling issues in the world.
“We have misused the highest power we possess … so great is this power – so complete is our freedom in it, so absolute the domain of law through it – that the misuse of this power has brought up us the very conditions from which we suffer … the power which appears to bind us is the only power in the universe which can free us … And so we suffer, not because suffering is imposed upon us, but because we are ignorant of our true nature.” – Ernest Holmes, Science of Mind (p. 36-7)
